Congratulations! You’ve finally moved into your new home. The hardest part is behind you, and now you’re starting the process of transitioning into your new life. This is a fun and exciting time for you and your family, setting things up just right and decorating with a fresh new Southern style.
To smooth the process of getting to know your new house and creating your perfect personal living spaces while avoiding hassles down the road, here are a few tips for making your new Southern home your own.
Your New Home Move-In Checklist
-
Explore Your Home Thoroughly
One of the first things to do is find out where all the important things are. Learn the locations of the appliances, water heater, furnace, smoke alarms, circuit breaker boxes, main water line valve, and shutoff valves for all the plumbing.
-
Set Up Your Beds
It’s a safe bet that after a full day of moving, you and your family will be exhausted. Make sure the first thing you unload is the beds. If not fully set up, at least get the mattresses and box springs in place, so you’ll have a place to crash when you finally run out of steam.
-
Set Up Utilities
You’ve probably already taken care of the electricity and water, and now is the time to order any other services you didn’t schedule in advance. They can include cable, internet, phone and alarm services, and perhaps lawn care and landscaping services.
-
Change Your Address
Maybe you’ve already forwarded your mail to your new home. Now you’ll need to sit down and change your address and other contact info with all the companies you do business with, including your bank, credit card companies, insurance providers, doctors, lawyers, etc., to ensure you don’t miss important communications.
-
Secure Your Paperwork
You’ll have a ton of new documents to contend with after buying your new home, as well as all the manuals and receipts that come with new appliances and furniture. Now’s the time to get it all organized and stored in a safe, convenient place where you can access them for quick reference.
-
Explore the Neighborhood
Take some time to get out and enjoy the pastoral scenery, check out the amenities and connect with your neighbors in your new home at The Reserve at Leonard Farms.
